Student
Loans
Federal Stafford Loans
Freedom Credit Union funds both subsidized and unsubsidized
loans. For subsidized loans, the interest is paid by the government as long
as the student attends school and repayment begins six months after
schooling ends. To qualify for subsidized loans, the student must show
financial need according to PHEAA’s guidelines. For unsubsidized loans, the
student is responsible for all interest on the loan from the date of
disbursement.
Loan amounts and interest rates vary. Members may contact
PHEAA for current details and use Freedom’s lender code #834184 when
applying.
Federal PLUS Loans
Parents of undergraduate college students can apply for
PLUS loans to supplement the student’s aid package. Repayment on PLUS loans
begins 60 days after the last loan disbursement. Parents may take up to 10
years to repay the loan. In some cases, the interest may be tax deductible.
Eligibility, loan amounts and interest rates vary. Members
may contact PHEAA for current details and use Freedom’s lender code
#834184 when applying.
