Freedom Credit Union Sponsors Biz Kid$ Financial Learning TV Show
Freedom Credit Union is sponsoring Biz Kid$, a new, fast-paced TV series where kids teach kids about money and entrepreneurship. Freedom’s local sponsorship of Biz Kid$ begins Sunday, March 2nd and will run every Sunday for sixteen weeks on WHYY DTV from 5:00 – 5:30 PM.
Freedom is lending its support to the show because of the program’s focus on educating school-aged children about saving, budgeting, investing, and giving back to the community. The credit union is commited to helping kids succeed and providing financial literacy education to the community it serves. Since 2006, Freedom has provided financial education materials to more than 139 classes, reaching approximately 15,000 students. Freedom’s focus on education was also a catalyst for creating the “Voices of Inspiration” Award for Teaching Excellence in 2006, an annual award that recognizes twenty-three exemplary educators in Montgomery County.
279 PBS television stations in 43 states have committed to broadcast the Biz Kid$ TV series exclusively underwritten by America’s Credit Unions to teach kids about money. The show, produced in high definition by the Emmy Award-winning creators of Bill Nye the Science Guy was created to entertain, engage, and elevate kids’ knowledge about money. Every Biz Kid$ episode will begin and end with a narrator reminding viewers that “Production funding for Biz Kid$ is provided by America’s Credit Unions, where people are worth more than money,” reinforcing the benefit of belonging to a credit union.
Don't Get Lured by Phishing Scamsters
Hundreds of consumers have found themselves
the victims of an e-mail scam known as “phishing.” It involves high-tech
fraudsters who pretend to be a legitimate financial institution or credit card
company. Hiding behind the anonymity of the Internet, the fraudsters send out
“official-looking” e-mails designed to trick consumers into divulging
financial and personal information, such as account numbers, passwords, user
names, Social Security Numbers, and other sensitive data. In most cases, the
e-mail will claim there is an account problem or warns of a possible account
fraud threat. Either way — the whole idea is to convince the consumer there is
an immediate need to update their financial information.
If you receive an e-mail from Freedom Credit
Union requesting financial information or any other personal or sensitive
data:
- Treat the e-mail with suspicion.
- Do not reply by phone or e-mail. Also, do not respond by clicking on a link within the e-mail message. Freedom Credit Union will never ask you to provide any kind of confidential or financial details via an e-mail request.
- Contact Freedom Credit Union as soon as
possible to report the suspicious e-mail. You can reach us by calling
215-612-5900.
Be smart when you receive an e-mail from any
financial service provider that requests personal data. If you believe someone
has attempted to hook you with a “phishy” e-mail, you can contact the Internet
Crime Complaint Center at ic3.gov/complaint.
