About FCU
Members First at Freedom Credit Union
Freedom Credit Union is a full service financial institution with over $330 million in assets and 53,000 Members. Originally chartered in 1934 to provide financial services to employees of The School District of Philadelphia, Freedom now serves individuals and organizations throughout the Greater Philadelphia Area.
At Freedom, Members are also owners and their needs always come first. Keeping Members best interest in mind, we offer a full line of convenient financial services. Unlike banks, Freedom works to provide the best possible services to Members, rather than paying dividends to stockholders. This translates into better rates on deposits, better loan rates, and lower fees, along with some special services not available at other financial institutions such as youth accounts, “Members only” car sales, and various discounts. At Freedom, Members are first!
Who Is Eligible to Join Freedom Credit Union?
Freedom Credit Union Membership is available to anyone who lives, works, worships, or attends school in the five county Southeastern Pennsylvania area. This area consists of the following counties: Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, and Philadelphia. To join, simply contact Freedom at 215-612-5900, click here, or visit one of our branches. We’ll be glad to help you make more of your money.
Freedom - In the Community
- Northeast Senior Citizens Expo - Each year, Freedom’s Marketing Representatives attend the Northeast Senior Citizens Expo at the Pennsylvania Army National Guard Armory. In an effort to promote Credit Union services to seniors in the Northeast Philadelphia area, they distribute informational materials and special giveaways.
- Financial Literacy books – Union continues its commitment to financial education in the Delaware Valley by providing financial literacy materials to high schools in the Montgomery County and Philadelphia School Districts at no cost to the schools or the districts. Since 2006, the Credit Union has given financial education materials to more than 139 classes, reaching approximately 15,000 students.
- Toys for Tots & Annual Holiday Donation – In the spirit of the Credit Union movement motto, “People Helping People,” Freedom Credit Union assisted the community with two generous acts of kindness this past holiday season. Freedom teamed up with the United States Marine Corps and was a drop-off location for the Toys for Tots program, encouraging both Members and employees to make toy donations to this worthy cause. In addition, Freedom’s employee club, the Sunshine Club, also made their annual holiday donations to two worthy charities.
- Voices of InspirationSM Award – In 2007, Freedom Credit Union partnered with the Montgomery County Intermediate Unit to create the Voices of Inspiration Award for Teaching Excellence in Montgomery County. The Voices of Inspiration Award recognizes teachers who exceed expectations in meeting their students’ needs in both public and non-public Montgomery County schools.
The annual award honors one elementary school teacher, one middle school teacher, and one high school teacher as grand prize winners from twenty-one finalists.
Nominations for the Voices of Inspiration Award are based on an individual’s contribution or performance during that school year, or for cumulative efforts over many years. These nominations are submitted by students, parents, co-workers, administrators, or school employees. Nominations for the 2009 Voices of Inspiration will open in the fall, 2008. Check back then for more information. Click here for the Voices of Inspiration website.
- Freedom Scholarship – Freedom Credit Union strongly believes in giving back to the Members it serves and improving the communities in which they live and work. One way Freedom has demonstrated its commitment is through the Freedom Credit Union Scholarships.
Every year, four $1,000 scholarship awards are given to qualified students to help them further their education. Essay topics and rules are announced each January and applications are accepted from January through March. Please check back for more details.
