In the Community
Freedom Credit Union strongly believes in giving back to the Members it serves and improving the communities in which they live and work. Below are just a few of the events and programs that Freedom has initiated and continues to support.
Voices of InspirationSM Awards
In 2007, Freedom Credit Union partnered with the Montgomery County Intermediate Unit to create the Voices of Inspiration Award for Teaching Excellence in Montgomery County.
The annual award honors twenty-three winners, including one elementary school teacher, one middle school teacher, and one high school teacher selected as grand-prize winners.
Nominations are now closed for the 2014 Awards, and will reopen in December for the 2015 Awards. These nominations are submitted by students, parents, co-workers, administrators, or school employees.
Every year, three $2,000 scholarship awards will be given to qualified students to help them further their education. Scholarship applicants must meet specific qualifications for consideration and must submit a 500-word essay on a specific topic chosen by the Freedom Credit Union Scholarship Committee. Only Members are eligible to apply.
The 2014 Scholarship entry period is now closed and will reopen in April for the 2015 scholarships.
Freedom Cares Committee
The Freedom Cares Committee is a group made up of Freedom employees who meet regularly to organize charitable programs and events to benefit the community. This committee is responsible for driving several targeted campaigns for the Credit Union to support for the year, in addition to running the charitable activities that coincide with Freedom employee events. This includes, but is not limited to, raffles, food drives, fundraisers, and helping out at local soup kitchens. For more information, please contact the Freedom Cares Committee Chairperson, Meredith Lubking, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Financial Literacy Education
Freedom Credit Union continues its commitment to financial education in the Delaware Valley by providing financial literacy materials and seminars in the communities we serve. Since 2006, the Credit Union has given financial education materials to 177 schools, reaching more than 25,000 students in the 5 county Philadelphia area.
Toys for Tots & Annual Holiday Donation
In the spirit of the Credit Union movement motto, "People Helping People," Freedom Credit Union assisted the community with two generous acts of kindness this past holiday season. Freedom teamed up with the United States Marine Corps and was a drop-off location for the Toys for Tots program, encouraging both Members and employees to make toy donations to this worthy cause. In addition, Freedom's employee club, the Sunshine Club, also made their annual holiday donations to two worthy charities.
